In the early days of his life, Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries and a well known businessman in India, worked at a petrol pump for only 300 rupees a month and later Dhirubhai Ambani with his hard work and dedication achieved a position that we all see today.
Dhirubhai Ambani was born on 28 December 1932 in Chorwad, Junagadh district in Gujarat. Dhirubhai Ambani had four siblings, Dhirubhai Ambani’s father was a teacher. His first life was full of hardships. Dhirubhai Ambani’s family used to face financial crisis. When Dhirubhai Ambani took the first step in business, he had no ancestral property or money.
Dhirubhai Ambani moved to Yemen with his brother Ramniklal in 1949 at the age of 17 to earn money. Here he got a job at a petrol pump of A. Bassi & Co at a salary of around Rs.300 per month. This company, seeing Dhirubhai’s love for work, manages him at the filling station. After working for the company for a few years, Dhirubhai Ambani returned to India in 1954.

Dhirubhai Ambani started learning a lot about the market because of his business acumen. Dhirubhai Ambani also fully understood that the demand for polyester is highest in India and abroad. Then Dhirubhai Ambani started a company called Reliance Commerce Corporation, which started selling Indian spices abroad and foreign polyester in India. Along with this Dhirubhai bought a house of about 350 square feet, a table, three chairs, two assistants and a telephone for his office in Mumbai.

Reliance Commercial Corporation started from a very small office on Narasimha Street in Mumbai’s Masjid Bandar and this is where Reliance Industries was born. In this business, Dhirubhai did not focus too much on profit but focused on producing more products and better quality of those products.
At the time, Ambani and his family were living in a very small apartment on the Joy Hind Estate in Bhuleshwar, Mumbai. Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of Reliance Industries, likes to take risks in business. He thought of increasing his profit by hoarding any product. Reliance Industries was founded in 1977 by Dhirubhai Ambani.
Dhirubhai Ambani changed his business name many times. Dhirubhai Ambani has changed his business name about three times as Reliance Commercial Corporation, Reliance Textile Pvt. Ltd. and Reliance Industries Ltd.
This company started with the stock market in the raw materials and retail markets. Today, according to one estimate, about three and a half million shareholders have joined Reliance. In addition, Reliance is one of the four holders in the Indian stock market. According to a statistic, Reliance’s contribution to India’s total exports is 14 per cent, the second highest after Indian oil.
